What is an Accountable Care Organization?
United together we are improving health; improving experience of care & reducing cost of care.
The concept of an Accountable Care Organization
(ACO) was born out of the growing evidence that the
best health care is founded on a commitment to
quality, coordination, and active patient
involvement. Medicare has shifted its attention to
reward the quality of outcomes. Accountable Care
Organizations (ACOs) are a group of doctors,
hospitals, and other health care providers, who have
united to provide coordinated high quality care to
Medicare patients.
ACOs are poised to be the most important effort to
preserve Medicare for you and generations to follow.
Your primary care physician, supplied with real-time
information about your care, is making a positive
difference in patients’ care through: enhanced
quality, improved health, and decreased cost.
Greater ACO success in your own care depends on
combined involvement with you and your doctor.

- Citrus ACO recognizes that the healthcare delivery is changing and that traditional fee-for-service is a non-sustainable model for our constituent physicians as well as our Medicare beneficiaries. Hence we have adopted the value-based care delivery model.
- "Accountable Care Organizations will improve coordination and communication among physicians and other providers which will help improve care and lower costs for Medicare beneficiaries," said Marilyn B. Tavenner, acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. CMS does not endorse any ACOs. 42 CFR Sec. 423.310 prohibits language suggesting that CMS endorses an ACO.
